A few days ago Jay sent me a quick email with the subject line reading ‘Do you remember this man?’. Inside was a link to the BBC Sports page and a story of a man and his team beating all the odds to win an amazing race.
As I looked at the pictures I was transported back to a holiday in Wales and a walk along a woodland path to Borth y Gest a couple of years ago where we came upon a beautiful old house. I was busy admiring this gorgeous house when I spotted a man in the grounds out walking with a toddler. I felt a little embarrassed that I’d been staring like a love sick kid at his house and started to turn away when he raised his hand and shouted a lovely ‘Hello’ to Jay and I. His smile was so warm and friendly I immediately felt better about having stared for so long at his house and returned his greeting with a big smile thinking ‘what a lovely chap’…. and so off we went to continue our woodland walk.
As we moved out of earshot of the man and child (and that gorgeous house) Jay leaned to me and whispered, ‘You know who that was don’t you’. ‘Errrr no, should I?’ I replied thinking what a daft question, how would I know who some random guy was. ‘It was Ben Ainslie’ he said all smug, like the cat with the cream. ‘Oh yeah, and who’s that?’ I replied
Well, Jay nearly choked he was so shocked I didn’t know who Ben Ainslie was. ‘He’s only the most decorated sailor ever’ he says, visibly pale with the utter dismay that I hadn’t realised this….. hahahahaha
Needless to say, with the London Olympics the following year and the Americas Cup this year I’ve followed Sir Ben Ainslie’s career with interest so when Jay sent me that email titled ‘Do you remember this man’ I was able to say a resounding ‘YES’…..
I remember very well that lovely unassuming man in the woods walking with the little child who didn’t make me feel like an idiot for staring madly at his house and I thank him for his grace and kindness and his welcoming ‘Hello’.
I know who you are now Sir Ben, I remember you well and I’m so happy for you and your most recent win. I’m proud to be able to say we exchanged ‘Hellos’

Merge Down vs Merge Layers
For the longest time I didn’t understand the difference between Merge Down and Merge Layers, two layer options available in both Adobe Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. If I wanted to merge layers, I tried Merge Down. If that didn’t give me the result I wanted, I clicked Control+Z (to Undo), and tried Merge Layers. One day I decided to actually stop what I was doing, take the time to discover the difference between the two, and why I could / should choose one over the other. This is what I discovered!
